Ensure that NPF embraces technology 100%

Ensure that NPF embraces technology 100%

Sir,

One of the  problem facing law enforcement in Nigeria today is the lack of technological infusion into the system.

It is my belief that crime and criminality is a global phenomenon and can not be handled in a localized manner. A few decades ago, no one would have believed that Nigeria will ever witness the kind of crimes that is going on around the country today. But, it is happening now, If we had embraced technology earlier and prepare our law enforcement agencies  by way of acquiring training on how best to use such technologies in solving modern crimes, by now thing would been of lesser stress.

I also believe that if you can solve the problems around law enforcement agencies in Nigeria, especially the Nigeria Police Force then you would have solve more than 50% of the current problems facing us such as corruption, impunity, indiscipline, fraud, etc. since the police officer are ready to work and are well equipped with modern equipment to carry out their essential duties.

In 2015/2016 during the administration of the former Inspector General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase alot of successes were recorded at various department of the Nigeria Police Force. He was able to infuse a bit of technology in some tactical unit such as the Intelligence Response Team – IRT, by creating a robust unit known as the Technical Intelligence Unit whose primary role is to feed the IRT and other Units with location information of criminals.

He also created the first ever in Africa – Police Complaint platform in which members of the public now lay complaint via Facebook, twitter – @PoliceNG_PCRRU, whatsapp, BBM, SMS, phone calls and email and are sure of getting quick response from any part of Nigeria.  The Unit was known then as the Complaint Response Unit – CRU later renamed as Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit – PCRRU.

He also created a Tinted Permit Platform that enables members of the public to apply online for tinted permit and then get it done from the comfort of your home.

Perhaps, these innovations were the reason why that period was seen as the safest for the populace and police officer were respected.

Strategic thinking!

I feel very concerned in this because it is my constituency and wish i could do something about it but unfortunately i cant. So i share it with you, may be you can see one or two points .

I sincerely wish you all the best in your ambition

Aliyu.

I totally agree, a large number of the problems in government administration can be resolve via technology. For instance, the blockchain technology will allow for transparency, efficiency and accountability.

I have severally witnessed first hand how lack of technology makes crime fighting in Nigeria seem like childs play. With proper updated training and a conscious change from the prevailing decayed work ethics, our police would gradually become respected demigods.

Decentralising Nigeria government is the first step towards effective security in Nigeria. Let the regions manage, regulate, and develop their local security systems. That big Nigeria central government handle everything is military dictatorial government ideology and it is outdated. The duty of the central government regarding safety of Nigeria shall be limited to national security only and thats where the military comes in.

Effective security in Nigeria is one of those vital keys to unlocking economic development. Put it simply; nobody keeps their assets in an unsafe place.

I believe tackling the security issue is paramount and requires a holistic approach. Fire bridage solutions are never long lasting nor permanent. Technology will do greatly in turning Nigeria into one of the safest and happiest places on Earth.

An underdeveloped, under-equipped, under-motivated and understaffed police force is a recipe for insecurity in any country. With our increasing population and increasingly complex socioeconomic needs, Nigeria needs a domesticated police and intelligence agency to facilitate security and enforce regulations of the state. More so, insurgency and other crimes flooding the nation cannot be addressed by the current system.
